James Dresbach was horn in Circleville, Ohio on November 27, 1902, son of Charles and Margaret (Young) Dresbach. He attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1924, and received his law degree two years later. He practiced law in Detroit. In 1933 he married Marie A. Cavanaugh. James Dresbach died in Detroit in September 1975. Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937. With support from the Michigan Commission on Art in Public Places, 1,076 items were inventoried during 1988-1990.
