Edwin S. Cramp collection, 1850-1950.

Papers of Edwin S. Cramp during and after his employment with the William Cramp & Sons Ships and Engine Building Company of Philadelphia. The papers are primarily financial, although both personal and business. They also reflect Cramp's campaign for government subsidy of the United States merchant marine shipbuilding industry. The collection also contains photocopies of trial photos for two Cramp Cruisers, the ALABAMA and the VARIAG.

Edwin S. Cramp was born in 1853, the grandson of the founder of the William Cramp & Sons Ship and Engine Building Company where he worked throughout his life. Apprenticed to the Engineering Department in 1871, he advanced to the positions of Vice-President and Director. Cramp resigned in 1907, and died in 1913. From the description of Edwin S.
