Chiefly family letters between brothers Thomas and William Evans and Thomas' sons Asa L., N. George, James, and Beverly Evans. Includes letters, 11 Mar. 1826, Thomas Evans (Marion, S.C.), to William Evans (Lodamont, Abbeville District, S.C.), complaining of low cotton prices and scarce provisions in the area; 19 Feb. 1856, Capt. N. George Evans (Camp Cooper, Texas) to William Evans, reporting that he was stationed with the Second Cavalry "to hold the northern Commanches in check"; and May 1872, Sandersville, Ga., Beverly Evans, to Asa Evans, re purchase of the Central Georgian newspaper [which ceased publication 2 Feb. 1874]. Other items include bonds and receipts for Maj. S.F. Gibson of Pee Dee Bridge; legal documents relating to Horatio McClenaghan, of Marion, S.C.; Asa L. Evan's licenses, 1857 and 1869, to practice law in South Carolina and United States courts; certificate, 27 Aug. 1880, for A.L. Evans, of Mars Bluff, S.C., from The First Normal Institute of the State of South Carolina in Spartanburg; and fuel oil ration card, 14 July 1943, issued to Margaret L. Evans, of Marion, S.C. Photographs include 2 daguerreotypes, 3 ambrotypes, and 2 photograph albums; all images are of unidentified persons except for a carte-de-visite of Mary E. Berry in her album and 2 cabinet photographs of Master Percy Helton as Little Gracie Logan.
