Recordings consist primarily of interviews with African writers and scholars regarding African literature, film, and linguistics. Countries covered include Nigeria, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, and Zaire. These interviews were recorded during the African Language Association conferences during 1994, 1996, and 1997 and as part of the Voices of Africa "Holiday Festival of African Arts." Other materials in the collection include a presentation to the Library of Congress and a formal dialogue between James Baldwin and Chinua Achebe during the African Literature Association meeting at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
