James Grady was born on 30 Apr. 1949 in Shelby, Mont. He graduated from the University of Montana School of Journalism in 1974. James Grady sold his first novel, Six Days of the Condor, at age twenty-four. The book was made into the motion picture, "Three Days of the Condor," in 1975. In the summer of 1973, he received a fellowship to work on the staff of U.S. senator Lee Metcalf of Montana. He wrote the novel, Shadow of the Condor, while working for Metcalf.
