Copies of Ball's newspaper column, reviews of his 1932 book, The State That Forgot, and biographical sketches, 1953, written after his death. Undated column titled "Columbia in Reminiscence," re Ball's memories of Columbia: unveiling of Confederate soldiers' monument in 1879; description of life in Columbia ca. 1883 as a 14-year old freshman at South Carolina College [University of South Carolina], description of the Horseshoe on the campus and a visit to the library; condition of the uncompleted State House and the rough conditions of the grounds, as well as popular hotels, restaurants, ice cream shops, dances held during the week of the S.C. State fair, etc. Other essays discuss The State newspaper and the city of Columbia's sesquicentennial celebrations; reviews of Ball's book, State That Forgot, 1932, published in the New York Times Book Review, The State newspaper, etc.; and biographical sketches, 1953, written after Ball's death.
