Diary kept by Sarah E. Hooper of Boston, Mass., 1 Jan.- 5 Nov. 1855 (with gaps in Sept. and Oct.), while she was living with her husband Samuel Thompson Hooper in Melbourne, Australia. Diary entries include her daily thoughts and descriptions of time spent with her husband and other Americans living in Australia; activities with the Ladies Benevolent Society in Melbourne; domestic affairs; social engagements; herself and others health; church attendance; and the weather. Also includes letters to and from Hooper, writings and notes, printed materials, and clippings, 1844-1908, pertaining mostly to her life in Boston, Mass. and her associations with the Soldier's Memorial Society and Boston Cooking School.
