The Androscoggin Electric Company was incorporated in Maine by Chapter 177 of the Acts of 1913, approved March 25, 1913. Original corporators were Winfield S. Libbey, Henry M. Dingley, Harold S. Libbey and J.E. Parkhurst of Lewiston, and John A. Morrill of Auburn. Central Maine Power Company (CMP) was founded in 1899 when Harvey D. Eaton, an attorney from Waterville, Maine, and Walter S. Wyman, an engineer, bought the Oakland Electric Company. This company, organized in 1887, owned a hydroelectric generator which provided street lighting and electricity to the community of Oakland, Maine.
