Spalding Hotel (Portland, Or.) register, 1895-1901.

The bound volume includes signatures of guests, room numbers, and dates of registration. The majority of guests came from Washington, Oregon, California, and Montana, but smaller numbers also arrived from throughout the rest of the country, Canada, Mexico, India, France, and the British Isles. In 1897, the hotel was home away from home for the touring Columbia Opera Company, and it occasionally hosted other performers.

Helen F. Spalding was a longtime literature teacher at Portland High School and successful real estate investor. In 1895, she took over management of her hotel building and renamed it for herself.
