Franklin Paul Eggert was born in 1920 in Buffalo, N.Y. He received his B.S. degree and his doctorate from Cornell University. He came to the University of Maine in 1949 as extension fruit specialist and head of the horticulture department of the Agricultural Experiment Station. He was dean of the Graduate School from 1963 to 1975, served from 1963 to 1967 as director of research, and served as chairperson of the Plant and Soil Science Department and as professor of horticulture.
