Personnel Handbook 1961-1986 [microform].

This series comprises personnel handbooks issued by The American Lutheran Church's (TALC) Division for World Mission and Inter-Church Cooperation and its predecessor the Division for World Mission. They date from 1961-1986 and are of two types. Earlier copies are printed booklets and later versions are printed, looseleaf pages designed to be placed in a small, 3-ring binder. The handbooks from 1961-1970 were referred to as "rule books" and outlined membership, organization, duties and responsibilities of the board, rules regarding candidates for mission service, and rules for commissioned missionaries. Rules pertaining to commissioned missionaries included provisions regarding salaries, housing, medical benefits, furloughs, travel to and from the field, retirement, recall, and termination of service. There were also rules regarding the missionary conference and language study, missionary children's education, personal property, furniture, housing, and publicity. The format and content changed somewhat after 1970. It is unclear whether the changed occurred in 1971 or 1972, because this series does not include a handbook for 1971. The new design included looseleaf pages suitable for placement in a small 3-ring binder. Content for the handbook included topics similar to those found in earlier handbooks, but also included types of service available for candidates and detailed explanations of orientation, compensation, children's education, health care, home leave, vacations, housing, travel, continuing education, leave of absence, parcel shipment, and other matters. There are no handbooks for 1962, 1965, 1966, or 1971. It is unclear whether or not they were published for those years. It appears that in the 1960s if there were revisions to the handbook, it was reissued. There was only one handbook issued for the period from 1972-1975. Beginning in 1976 a handbook was issued each year.
