This series contains records generated or retained by the office of the Secretary for Africa, Division for World Mission and Inter-Church Cooperation (DWMIC) of The American Lutheran Church (TALC). They are from 1965-1983 with the bulk dating from 1973-1982. Types of records include handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, proceedings from consultations, meeting minutes, newspaper articles, informational brochures, newsletters, project progress reports, project or program proposals, and topical reports. Files contain information on different mission areas in which TALC either provided direct assistance or provided financial assistance. There are records pertaining to issues of concern or work occurring in Namibia, Botswana, Niger, and South Africa. In addition to records related to programs TALC supported, there are also files pertaining to mission topics of interest for TALC. These include Islam in Africa, urban industrial issues, justice and reconciliation, health concerns, vocational training, race relations, women's issues, and environmental concerns. The majority of records are correspondence and the primary author is the Rev. James L. Knutson, Secretary for Africa. Records created prior to the DWMIC were retained in this series for continuity purposes. Files were kept in original order.
