Sir Theodore Janssen was a financier politician. Born in Holland, he became a naturalized English citizen in 1685, and was a founder of the Bank of England and director of the South Sea Company. He was made baronet at the request of the Prince of Wales, and became a member of Parliament in 1717. A successful and wealthy businessman, he was arrested amid scandal after the collapse of the South Sea Company, and much of his fortune confiscated to help pay off the Company's debts. From t...
