The Herbert and Louise Nichols Papers consist of letters to family and friends written by Herbert and Louise Nichols from Kotzebue, Alaska, in 1913-1917. Herbert Nichols was a doctor at the Kotzebue Hospital in the employ of the U.S. Bureau of Education, Alaska School Service, while Louise taught at the school. The collection also includes several articles on northwestern Alaska and a photograph of Louise Nichols with Eskimo children.

Dr. H.N.T. (Herbert Nathan Thomas) Nichols (1878-1926) served as government doctor at Kotzebue, Alaska, in 1913-1916. His wife, Louise McConnel Nichols (1877-1939), served as a teacher and social worker during their years in Kotzebue. From Alaska, the Nichols family moved to Michigan, where Herbert Nichols established a medical practice in River Junction, Jackson County, in April 1917.
