Letter, Aug. 21, 1872.

Letter to unnamed member of Grant's cabinet regarding the recipient's worry over "lying and slander" during the campaign, the "mine decision" and "the Catholic mission". Urges him pay no attention, General Chipman has supported him and "offer no more ammunition". "The president would rather lose anyone else in his cabinet than to let you go."
