The Charlotte Vestal Brown Papers include correspondence, photographs, research notes, transcriptions, and blueprints dating from 1980 to 1990. Material was gathered by Charlotte Vestal Brown for her study of the practice of building in North Carolina between 1865 and 1945 and includes information on the administration of the grant project, photographs and manuscripts from the book written by Dr. Brown, and research and reference files used in the project.

Charlotte Vestal Brown was born on June 3, 1942. She receive a B.A. in modern European history from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina and her Ph.D. in art history from UNC-Chapel Hill. An assistant professor of art at Duke University from 1971 to1979, Brown was curator of art at North Carolina State University from 1982 to 1985 and became Director of the Visual Arts Center at NCSU in 1985.
