Consists of monthly service weather observations recorded by the Weather Bureau in Raleigh from 1887-1972, with daily records and annual summaries available for some years. Newspaper clippings have been pasted into some volumes. The collection is divided into two series. Meteorological Trends,1887-1947 shows high, low and normal temperatures over time as recorded graphically and numerically on government forms. Monthly Meteorological Reports, 1887-1972 gives surface weather observation data for Raleigh, along with daily records and annual summaries included for some years, all recorded on government forms.

From 1947 until 1970, the official observations of weather in Boulder were made under the direction of the Boulder fire chief, at the central fire station. The Boulder Fire Department also maintained a weather station at the South Side Fire Station starting in July 1958. It was transferred to the Department of Agriculture in 1892 and then to the Department of Commerce in 1949. Today it is part of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.
