Thomas J. Maney, a native of New York, earned his B.S. (1912) in Horticulture from Iowa State College (University). Upon graduation, he started teaching at Iowa State as Professor (1912-1945) of Pomology and Head of the Pomology Sub-Section of the Agricultural Experiment Station (1940-1945). Maney was nationally recognized for his work on the development of hardy dwarf apple stocks, particularly the variety Clark's seedling.
