The Apholds were an Arizona pioneer family and miners that resided in Tucson. Louisa Maria Mallet and Henry Louis Aphold were married in Brownsville, Texas. Henry Louise Aphold, Sr., of German descent, was a salesman and politician in Brownsville, Texas. After her husband was shot and killed in Texas, Mrs. Louisa M. Rudolph Matas was a prominent New Orleans, La., surgeon. During his career, he served as director of the NEW ORLEANS MEDICAL AND SURGICAL JOURNAL and Professor of Surgery at Tulane University, a post he held until he became Emeritus Professor in 1927.
