Good Hope (Brigantine) logbook, 1801-1802.

The logbook of the brigantine Good Hope details a shipping voyage from Salem, Mass., to Saint Helena and Calcutta, Jan. 1801-Jan. 1802. The brigantine's home port was Salem; the owners were Nathaniel West and John Collins; the master was Collins; the logbook keeper was Abijah Northey. The logbook includes notes on birds seen during the voyage; diseases, specifically scurvy, on board; recreation and naval medicine; and equipment and supplies, specifically provisions, on board. The illustrations consist of profile views. During its voyage, the Good Hope spoke the schooner Jenny (out of Boston) and the brig Polly (out of Philadelphia).
