Record group 83-57 consists of records of two legal proceedings for departmental permits as granted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The first involves an application by the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad Company for the use of Great Lakes bottom-lands and the development of a ship unloading facility in Presque Isle Harbor. In the second case, the Kent County Public Works Department sought permits to establish a sanitary landfill. Both licenses were granted, with exceptions, after a fact-finding process.
