Otter (Brig) logbook, 1809.

The logbook of the brig Otter details the beginning of a shipping voyage from Boston into the South Atlantic, April-June 1809. The voyage continues aboard the brig Otter in Log 1809O2. The brig's home port was Boston; the owners were Jonathan and Thomas C. Amory, Oliver Keating, and Dixey Wilds; the master was Samuel Hill; the logbook keeper was Robert Kemp. The logbook includes mention of armored vessels and naval convoys encountered during the voyage, and notes on navigation. During its voyage, the Otter spoke the English ship London and the ship San Juan, out of Lima, Peru.
