Betsey (Schooner) logbook, 1801-1802.

The logbook of the schooner Betsey details two shipping voyages, March 1801-May 1802. The first voyage was from Boston to Martinique; the second, incomplete voyage was from Salem, Mass., to Tenerife, Canary Islands; Sao Miguel Island and Faial Island in the Azores; and Funchal in the Madeira Islands. The schooner's home port was Salem; the owner, master, and logbook keeper was David Smith. The logbook includes notes on animals, specifically sheep; shipboard occupations; and a quarantine. During its voyages, the Betsey spoke the ship John Jay out of Nantucket and the ship Prudent out of Salem.
