The collection is almost exclusively business related. The majority of letters from other lawyers in Illinois and other states discussing cases or legal matters. Many letters from individuals giving lengthy details of legal problems and asking for Freeman's assistance or opinions. Three letters re: slavery. Several letters re: politics in Kentucky and several re: politics in Illinois with some reference to Freeman running for an office. A series of letters from Tucker discuss his experiences on the road. In one he discusses a chance meeting with Elliot Anthony who had written a digest similar to Freeman's, but not as well accepted. Two letters from Samuel Scott Marshall discuss the digest, legal matters and preparation for the case for the representatives of Henry Eddy. Letters from James B. Turner, John W. Mitchell, Robert Ingersoll and Lyman Trumbull among many others.
