Henry C. Pitz papers, 1919-1973.

Collection consists of a wide range of materials including correspondence and illustrations. The Correspondence includes incoming letters which are organized by author of the letter. Included are biographical notices and clippings related to Pitz. Book manuscripts by Pitz include The cunning fox and Giants and witches. The Manuscripts series also includes article materials. The Illustrations series includes cover pages, tracings, unidentified book illustrations, and pencil sketches. Also included are etchings and lithographs, the majority of which are by Pitz, but also include ones by Samson Feldman, Charles Locke, and Diana Thorne.

Henry Clarence Pitz was born June 16, 1895 in Philadelphia, PA. He married Molly Wheeler Wood June 10, 1935. From 1914-1918, he studied at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and Spring Garden Institue. Mr. Pitz pursued a career of artist, illustrator, art editor, lecturer, and instructor. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Mr. Pitz received many awards for his work. He illustrated over 160 books. His artwork is represented in the permanent collections of many museums...
