Also contains executive correspondence, 1935-1964; plant maintenance and construction records, tax, corporate and payroll records with executive working files, 1922-1984. Includes financial records, cancelled checks, 1936-1956, 1978-1979, check stubs, 1942-1943, and income statements; purchasing vouchers, 1920-1926; sales records including credits and allowances, orders received, sales reports and shipping orders. Also contains salary information, a volume with 1953 payroll and Social Security history files for 1936-1939; inventories of stock and finished goods, 1921-1924, wool reports for 1933-1936, and daily production reports for spinning and printing, 1931-1933.

Robert L. Beattie founded the Robert Beattie Co. in 1840 in New York City. It moved to Little Falls, N.J. in 1843. The company's name changed several times; it was called the Little Falls Carpet Mills, 1843-1871; Robert Beattie and Sons, 1871-1882; and the Beattie Manufacturing Co. from 1882. Nineteenth century textile directories list the company as making Brussels, tapestry, ingrain and velvet carpets and Smyrna rugs as well as druggets, plushes, robes and velours.
