Fanny (Brig) logbook, 1800-1801.

The logbook of the brig Fanny details a shipping voyage from Beverly, Mass., to Alicante, Spain, Nov. 1800-Mar. 1801. The brig's home port was Beverly; the owner was Israel Thorndike; the master and logbook keeper was John Thissel. The logbook includes notes on the ship's cargo of fish and mentions a quarantine. During its voyage, the Fanny spoke the ships Alimark, Eliza and Favorite (all out of Boston), the ship John and James (out of Newport, N.C.); the schooners Chance, New Adventure (out of Boston), Rachel (out of Salem, Mass.), and Raven (out of Marblehead, Mass.); the brigs Franklin, Nancy (out of Salem), Rover, and Seaflower (out of Newburyport); and the U.S. frigate George Washington.

Shipping merchant of Beverly, Mass. For many years Thorndike was a partner with his brother-in-law Moses Brown and George Dodge in the shipping firm of Brown and Thorndike, engaged in trade with the West Indies, the East Indies, and Calcutta, as well as with England and the Mediterranean ports.
