Papers pertaining to William Faulkner's University of Oregon visit, 1955-1986.

The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, interview notes, photographs, clippings and miscellaneous material compiled by Ruff on William Faulkner's visit to the University of Oregon at Eugene, April 13, 1955. Of special interest are the manuscript transcription of "Freedom American Style," Faulkner's address later published in "Harper's"; a typescript of Ruff's article "The day Faulkner came to Oregon"; interviews 30 years later with faculty members who had attended the lecture and luncheon; and transcriptions of question and answer sessions with Faulkner.
