Markers and monuments, Battle of Fayetteville, Ark., April 18, 1963 [View 2] [graphic] / Ernie Deane [photographer]. 1963.

Negative taken, but not used, for the April 19, 1963, Arkansas Gazette article "No Rebel Yells But South Wins Fayetteville," B1:2. The Battle of Fayetteville Centennial Observance took place in the yard of the historic Jonas M. Tebbetts House. The marker commemorates the Jonas M. Tebbetts' home that was used as the Federal troops headquarters during the Battle of Fayetteville on April 18, 1863. The marker reads, "Headquarters House. This house, built by Jonas M. Tebbetts about 1958, was used by headquarters by the Federal troops during the Battle of Fayetteville on April 18, 1863. Two doors still bear scars of the battle -- panels splintered by minie balls. Confederate cavalry charged down from East Mountain, led by General W.L. Cabell. The Federal commander was Colonel M. LaRue Harrison of the First Arkansas Cavalry USA. Most of the casualties occurred on the campus of old Arkansas College, directly across the street. This marker was placed here on the 100th anniversary of the battle by the Washington County Historical Society."
