Part of a group of negatives taken for July 7, 1963, Arkansas Gazette article "Wells Fargo Still Carries Our Gold," E5:2. Established in 1852 as a stage coach delivery company in California, the Wells Fargo Company still delivers valuable currency. Copy negatives taken of a Wells Fargo and Company Overland Stage coach carriage and a drawing of the coach being pulled by a team of horses.

Wells, Fargo & Company was founded in 1852 by Henry Wells and William G. Fargo. Wells and Fargo had also established the American Express Company with John Butterfield in 1850. In 1857 Wells Fargo, American Express, Adams Express, and United States Express formed the Overland Mail Company, which Wells Fargo took over in the early 1860s.
