Album containing forty-six commercially-produced carte de visite portraits, mostly depicting generals who served with the Union Army during the Civil War, taken ca. 1861-1865. There are also several photographs of prominent American scholars and politicians. Photographers include Brady's National Portrait Gallery of Washington, D.C. (published by E. Anthony of New York), as well as John Adams Whipple and Silsbee, Case, & Co. of Boston, Mass., among others. Most of the photographs are identified.
