The Dallas Art Association, the forebear of the Dallas Museum of Art, began assembling and presenting exhibitions in 1904 at the Dallas Public Library. In 1909, the Association moved to the Texas State Fairgrounds and the museum became known as the Free Public Art Gallery. From 1929 to 1936 the Association was housed in the Majestic Theatre Building and the Dallas Power and Light Building, respectively.
