Frazier was an army officer who began his career in the 5th New York Cavalry during the Civil War, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He later rejoined the Army and became captain in the 1st Cavalry. His letters, most of them to or from his wife, describe Army life in various frontier posts in Oregon, Texas, Montana, and California. He saw action in the Modoc War, was superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, 1889-1890, and after his retirement in 1895 became adjutant general of the state of W...
