The Donald J. Augustin collection contains several history research papers on topics ranging from the history of the Ukraine to the U.S.-Russian arms race to the Nemanya Dynasty and their relationship to Byzantium. The papers were written between 1979 and 1986, and are arranged chronologically. There is also a biographical article from the UND Alumni Review. The first addition to the Donald J. Augustin Papers consists of historical research papers written by Augustin regarding foreign countries such as East Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungrary and Poland. The papers were written between June 1997 and December 1998. They are arranged in chronological order based upon when they were written. The second addition to the Donald J. Augustin Papers consists of a detailed list of the contents of the Augustin Research Library. While the subject areas within the library are wide ranging, the main subject focus is the field of history. The library contains over 17,000 books, but magazines, phonograph records, CDs, photographs and models are also included. Also included is a paper authored by Augustin in 1990 entitled "Military Aerobatic Teams of the World: 1946-1990." A copy of this paper was provided by the Emil Buehler Library at the National Museum of Naval Aviation, in Pensacola, Florida.

Donald J. Augustin was born on May 7, 1934. He grew up in Rugby, North Dakota, and distinguished himself on the Rugby High School basketball team. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota in 1956. While at UND, Augustin earned three varsity football letters and four varsity basketball letters.
