Negative of the Elkhorn Tavern at the Pea Ridge National Military Park, part of the National Park Service, in Pea Ridge, Benton County, Arkansas. Prior to the Civil War, the Elkhorn Tavern was operated as an inn along the Butterfield Overland Mail Route by the J.C. Cox family and also served as a voting place, post office and Place of Worship. During the Civil War the Elkhorn Tavern was used as a hospital by both sides, and a headquarter for the Union forces in the area.
