One of a group of copy negatives taken of Walter J. Lemke's collection of cartoons of historic Arkansas people and place, including General Charles W. Adams and Helen Keller and the Arkansas Building at the Philadelphia Exposition, 1876. Deane more than likely took these copy negatives during his career with the Arkansas Gazette.

Helen Adams Keller (1880-1968) devoted her life to bettering the education and treatment of the blind, the deaf, and the nonverbal, and was a pioneer in educating the public in the prevention of blindness in newborns.
