Series 117 of record group 58-17 consists of a profile map (ca. 1838-1840) of a survey for a Michigan railroad route from Centreville via Lockport, Geneva and Cassopolis to Niles, engraved by Erastus Ward and drawn by Edw. R. Blackwell. The profile map was originally collected by the Michigan Lands Division. The survey was ordered under Joint Resolution No. 12 of the Michigan State Legislature, " ... to cause a correct and accurate survey and estimate of a railroad route, on the best and most eligible ground from Centreville via Lockport, Geneva and Cassopolis to Niles ..." The resolution was approved on April 3, 1838. The map is 11 1/2" x 17 1/2" in size, with a vertical scale of 50 ft. : 1 inch, and a horizontal scale of 8 in. : 1 mile.
