Lake Georgia Pacific, Ashley County, November 17, 1964 [Pump station] [graphic] / Ernie Deane [photographer]. 1964.

Negative taken for November 22, 1964, Arkansas Gazette article "This New Lake Has a Dual Purpose," E5:2. The Georgia-Pacific Corporation created a 1,800-acre lake at Stillions, Ashley County, Arkansas, with the Saline River as its chief source of supply. The lake provides 80% of the water for three paper mills in nearby Crossett, Arkansas. All of Crossett's industries, homes, schools, and businesses had been sharing their water supply with the mills before the lake was created. At the site, Georgia-Pacific also built a forty-seven acre park along the lakeshore, and installed picnic tables, charcoal grills, a pavilion, running water, and a lighted parking lot. Fishing and boating on the lake are added attractions for local residents and tourists.
