I.Q. Zoo, Hot Springs, March 5, 1963 [Rabbit] [graphic] / Ernie Deane [photographer]. 1963.

Negative taken for March 10, 1963, Arkansas Gazette article "Hot Springs 'Zoo' Is a 'School, ' Too," E5:2. The I.Q. Zoo in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, opened in 1955. It was an outgrowth of Animal Behavior Enterprises, a company founded by Keller and Marian Breland to train animals to do unusual tricks. In 1947 the Brelands had started a traveling road show that featured chickens, dogs, and other animals. The animals are trained using a reward system, that is, each time they do a trick they are given food. They are never starved to induce work, and once they learn a trick, do not seem to forget it. The I.Q. Zoo is now run by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Button.
