An unpublished account of European history by one of the most prominent Portuguese diplomats of the time. The first part contains a narrative of the principal events in Europe from 1659, when the Treaty of the Pyrenees was agreed between France and Spain, to 1706, the death of Pedro II of Portugal. The second part extends from the accession of John V to the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1714. The first part is preceded by a "Prologo do Copeador" signed Amaro Joseph de Mendonça, and dedications by the author (dated "20 de junho de 1714") to the king and to Diogo de Mendonça Corte Real, a prominent diplomat and statesman. The second part has another dedication (dated "30 de agosto de 1715") to the king, and is followed by an extensive index.

Luis da Cunha (1662-1740) had a long and highly successful diplomatic career. In 1696 he went as Ambassador to London, and subsequently served as Portuguese minister plenipotentiary at the negotiations which led up to the Treaty of Utrecht. In the following year he represented John V at the coronation of George I in London, and was later Ambassador in Madrid and Paris where he remained until his death.
