The list gives the date of purchase, name of slave, name of seller, and purchase price. A few pencilled notations from a later date note resales and deaths. The slaves were presumably bought as laborers for the Richmond, Va., tobacco processing industry of Miles Turpin and William T. and A. Rufus Yarbrough. Several slaves were listed with surnames including James Alsop, Bob Carrington, Bob Catlin, Henry Clay, Ben Douglas, Robert Garnet, William Henry (purchased 1855), William Henry (purchased 1859), Henry Howle, David Lewis, Robert Linton, Jim Monroe, William Robinson, Dick Walthall, John Wesley, and John White. The slaves were purchased from individuals, estate administrators, the sheriff, and [the slave trading firm?] Jones & Slater.
