John Barker Church was an English born businessman and supplier of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Victor du Pont (1767-1827) was born in Paris, the eldest son of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours. After completing his education, he was employed as one of three sous-chiefs in his father's office at the Bureau du Commerce in Paris. In 1787 he obtained a position as private secretary to the Comte de Moustier, the French minister to the United States.
