Editor of the National Tribune in Washington, D.C. who had served in the 16th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War and wrote several books on that war. Osborn H. Oldroyd, from Ohio, was a collector of Lincoln artifacts and memorabilia who came to Springfield, Illinois in 1884 and lived in the Lincoln home, making it a museum, until the state bought it in 1893. Abraham Lincoln (born February 12, 1809, Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky-died April 15, 1865, Washington, D.C.) was the sixteenth President of the United States from 1861 until his death by assassination.
