Includes biographical accounts, eulogies and obituaries, newspaper clippings, genealogical studies on the Wilder family, photographs, memorabilia, scrapbooks, diaries and an autobiography of his youth. There are class notes Wilder made as a student at Amherst College and at Freiburg University in Germany. The correspondence includes letters from his mentor and Amherst College professor John Tyler. Wilder was born in Bangor, Maine on April 7, 1864 to Solon Wilder and Sarah Watkins Smith. He grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Amherst College in 1886. Wilder then taught biology for three years before going to Freiburg University for the Ph. D. (1891). He came to Smith College in 1892. He founded the Zoology Department at Smith in 1893, did research and published widely. Tyler was born on May 18, 1851 in Amherst, Massachusetts, the son of Professor William Seymour Tyler. He graduated from Amherst College in 1873 and earned an M.A. from Amherst in 1876. He received a Ph. D. from Colgate in 1888. Tyler taught at Phillips Academy, Andover, and at Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
