Letter, July 9, 1861.

Letter to sister written from Richmond, Virginia where he has gone to seek an appointment, possibly in General Beauregard's command. Tells of his meetings with Beauregard and his opinion of him. Discusses his activities in Richmond and people he has seen and family business. Makes reference to "Mr. Lincoln's war."
