Handwritten manuscript of "My Four Years with Grant", never published as such. Covers the war including the Vicksburg and Chattanooga campaigns, the actions of the Army of the Potomac, the meeting of Grant and Lincoln at City Point, Grant and Sherman planning strategy and Grant and Lee at Appomattox. Also includes Grant and Cadwallader's opinions of many of the generals including Sherman, Sheridan and McClernand. Includes chapters not published in "Three Years with Grant" covering the interviews with Davis and Wirz, the trial and execution of the Lincoln conspirators, the tour with Johnson and his impeachment, Stanton's post-war activities, Grant's growing political ambitions and the death of John Rawlins. Includes letters re: critique and possible publication of the manuscript.
