Doolittle, mentions reconnaissance on the James River, the ship Keokuk, the Naval officers who helped capture New Orleans and Lee's recent visit with Doolittle. Mowry offers the letter for publication in the "Quarterly" since "Judge Doolittle has many friends in Illinois."
