This series comprises approximately 960 black and white and sepia-toned photographs, dated 1911-1956, from the Augustana Synod Mission in China and Hong Kong. These images represent a variety of aspects of the mission work in China and Hong Kong in which the Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church (AUG) was involved. In addition to photographs, there are two boxes of negatives, many of which correspond to photographs found in this series. Subject matter of photographs includes churches at Chunking, Hankow, Iyang, Kaifeng, among other locations; evangelism groups and individual evangelists, Bible women, schools, outdoor scenes and buildings, medical work, Luther League, missionaries, and native workers and pastors. Where a negative exists for a particular photograph, it is noted on the photograph and the negative envelope. Many of the photographs have the notation "F.M." and a four-digit number. It is unclear as to what this number corresponded. Other Augustana mission photograph collections have this same type of numbering system and were originally kept in albums, but it is unclear if these photographs were kept in an album. The majority of photographs have some kind of general identification and are dated. In addition to photographs and negatives, there are some postcards in the series, mostly outdoor scenes and buildings. Also, there is one folder of half-tones, the majority of which are unidentified. Items are arranged alphabetically by subject.
