As a whole the text is a historical chronicle centered around the life of Henry IV, the older half brother of Isabella I, who ruled Castile from 1454-1474. The manuscript is composed of two distinct parts. The first section begins with Henry IV's birth in 1425 and continues relating issues of state until the death of his half brother Alfonso in 1468. This second section relates the events leading up to the king's death in 1474.
