Handwritten transcript of Gist's account of his journey that "began from Col. Cresap's, at the old town on Potomack river, Maryland, October 31, 1750, continued down the Ohio, within 15 miles of the Falls thereof; and from thence to Roanoak River in North Carolina, where he arrived May 19, 1751; undertaken on the account of the Ohio company, and by the instruction of their committee."
